A very rare collection of Korean weapons from 1500-1000 BCE, with two stone swords, two stone crescent knives, and eleven stone arrowheads. These arrowheads are identical to the Bronze Age arrowheads on pages 32 - 35 of the catalog, the 29th United Association of the University Museum of Korea Exhibition - Korea's Bow and Arrow, The Military Academy Museum. The sword on the left in the first photo here is identical to a Bronze Age sword in the Korea Army Museum's Journal #6 (1999), page 40, and it is also identical to the sword that is from the famous collection of Gukeun Lee Yang-sun that is now in the permanent collection of the Gyeongju National Museum and can be seen on page 82 of the museum catalog. Please also see page 15 of the Gyeongju National Museum catalog for a sword that is very similar to the sword on the right of the first photo here. These publications attribute these weapons to the Gyeongju area in 1500 - 1000 BCE. Another useful book on this subject is the 2002 publication, Collection of Korea Army Museum, that gives examples of the differences between Bronze Age and Iron Age Korean weapons. They are quite a bit different, and these are clearly Bronze Age Korean weapons. There are also numerous examples of early Korean weapons in the article on the subject by John Boots in the December 1934 Transactions of the Korea Branch of the Royal Asiatic Society. This collection will add great historical depth to any collection. Swords: 10 inches (25.5 cm), Crescent Knives: 4.25 and 5 inches (11 and 13 cm), Arrowheads: 3 to 6 inches (7.5 to 15 cm).

Rare Antique and Genuine Traditional Korean Shaman's Bells (Muryoeng) used in shaman rituals for Summoning Good Spirits and Repelling Bad Spirits. You often see these bells depicted in antique paintings of Korean shamans. These shaman's bells that we offer here are not to be confused with the modern reproductions that you see for sale on eBay. These are genuine shaman implements with old workmanship and a beautiful patina from many years of traditional use a very long time ago. They are rare because they are normally buried or destroyed when the shaman dies. For a similar example of antique Korean shaman's bells bells, please see page 223 of The Collection of the National Folk Museum of Korea, published in 2012. 8 inches, 20.25 cm.

Large 19th Century Korean Sharkskin Jang Geom Sword with Silver Overlay. The scabbard is covered in sharkskin and lacquered black over that. The handle is very interesting and is covered in sharkskin underneath the heavy leather wrapping, and over the sharkskin there is a thick brass foil that is hammered to look like sharkskin. This is a unique technique. The end fitting is missing. The crossguard is shaky because there are a few washers missing from the sword. The blade goes all the way in the scabbard tightly but is off-center by about half an inch. 61.5 inches, 155 cm.

19th Century Sharkskin Head Band Case with Lacquered Dragon and Many Fine Details. A string would have been looped through either the lacquered dragon or the brass ring on the lid. Only a high-ranking person would have had a case that was made of sharkskin. This one is completely covered in sharkskin. The beautifully rendered brass hardware has grape motifs etched into them, a symbol of abundance, because of its many seeds. The chrysanthemum on the lid is also a symbol of plenty, because of its many petals. The other brass work on the lid is the two ancient Daoist trigrams, 'Thunder' and 'Fire'. Altogether a marvelous and rare work of artistry in excellent condition. 6.25 x 3.5 inches, 16 x 9 cm.
