Embroidered Pillow End Filled with Beautiful Symbolism
19th Century Korean Embroidered Pillow End overflowing with symbols of abundant joy and love, in an Exotic Paulownia Wood Frame. Because they mated for life, the cranes are a symbol of eternal fidelity; the mountains, pine tree and waves of the sea are all symbols of longevity, as are the two mythical bullocho longevity plants that are between the two cranes; the plum blossom is a symbol of courage; the clouds are a symbol of Heaven; and the cherry blossom symbolizes the arrival of spring and renewal. The person for whom this was designed many years ago must have been very much loved. Paulownia wood frames are valued for their beautiful wide grain and their insect-repelling qualities. Frame: 9.5 x 9.5 inches, 24 x 24 cm; Pillow End: 6 x 6 inches, 15.25 x 15.25 cm.
