| Beautifully Embroidered Korean Antique Lady's Hat Box, with an early 20th Century rendition of the Ten Symbols. The deer, the cranes, the pine tree, the Sun, and the mythical bullocho plant are all symbols of longevity. The chrysanthemum that each crane carries in its beak is a symbol of plenty, because of its many petals. The butterflies are a symbol of happiness. The bamboo is a symbol of integrity and resilience, because in a strong wind, it bends and does not break. The lotus blossoms are symbols of rebirth, because the lotus rises above the muck of the pond to show its face to the Sun. The circular Samsaeg-ui Taeguk symbol in the center is composed of three sections, each of a different color, representing Earth (blue), Humanity (yellow), and Heaven (red). There is also a pair of peacocks atop stylized mountains, symbolizing peace and prosperity, and there are characters for prosperity embroidered in the sides of the box. 7.5 inches (19cm) wide x 4 inches (10cm) tall. | ||
