Fine and Lavishly Embroidered Spoon and Chopstick Case
$500

Fine and Lavishly Embroidered Spoon and Chopstick Case (Sujeohjip). The spoon symbolizes sustenance and life, so it was appropriate for it to be kept in such a beautiful embroidered case. The peonies symbolize prosperity or wealth, and the lotus blossoms symbolize purity. The stylized waves and rocks at the bottom are longevity symbols. The butterflies are a symbol of happiness. The embroidered characters say celebrate a long and prosperous life in good health. This gorgeous spoon and chopstick case is further adorned with silk tassels and a nice example of Madeup, the Korean art of knotting. It must have been a proud possession of a Korean housewife many years ago. 12.5 x 8.25 inches, 31.75 x 21 cm.
