Iridescent 19th Century Multi-Colored Enamel Korean Hair Pin in the form of a Beautiful Butterfly in Flight. The butterfly is an ancient symbol of happiness in Korea. Enamel was used in luxury items for the rich. Plumbic oxide, borax, and glass powder were melted at a high temperature to create the enamels used to decorate these fine pieces. This process also prevented rust and discoloration. Korean Antique Dwikkoji Hair Pins are a pioneering and underpriced area of collecting. Dwikkoji were used by Korean ladies specifically for the chignon hair buns that were popular during the Joseon Period. 3.25 inches, 8.25 cm.
