Red Lacquered North Korean Chest with Lacelike Ironwork
North Korean Bandaji (Front Opening Chests) from Pakchon are highly desired by both collectors and interior designers for their very fine, detailed, lacelike ironwork (soong-soong-i). This particular all original and unrestored 19th Century Bandaji is a very fine, beautiful example, and is quite rare due to the red lacquer finish. We have collected only two like this, and don't expect to readily find more when these two sell. It is adorned with a number of auspicious symbols, including swallow and Namdaemun shapes. The Namdaemun is the South Gate and revered main entrance of a city. 34.5 x 32 x 15 inches, 88 x 82 x 38 cm. Excellent Condition.
