Gossu Blue Satsuma Koro with Silver Top Meiji

This lovely koro (perhaps the most desirable of Japanese forms, with an important ceremonial function) features a fine pierced lid of jungin (pure silver) depicting a phoenix in flight, beautifully engraved. The tripod, spherical body shows 3 more phoenix, each with different postures and expressions. The intricate, geometric background is incredibly precise handwork, forming a great contrast for the bold panels. This piece is "native" Japanese taste, with use of gossu blue and larger-scale design. The condition on this piece is in perfect condition with No Restoration. unsigned. C. 1885. Height: 6 in. Diameter: 5.2 in.
