Japanese Basse-Taille Cloisonne Vase w/ Cherry Tree

Excellent craftsmanship is evident on this Japanese Basse-Taille cloisonne vase. The motif portrays a blossoming cherry tree with gorgeous peonies growing at its base. The use of two different sizes of wire along with sculptured wire is a verification of the artist’s skills. Chiseled into the metal body are stunningly detailed, hanging wisteria blossoms intermingled with bamboo sprigs. The piece stands 12 ¼ inches high and has an enamel throat and base. The mounts are made of silver with the bottom mount stamped “SILVER JAPAN SATO CLOISONNE”. Outside some tarnish to the rims, the piece is in mint condition. No Restoration. Later Taisho to early Showa.
