T006 Japanese Antique Shonai-Shoami Brass Tsuba
HARD TO FIND VERY RARE KATANA TSUBA!! Shonai Shoami tsuba made of brass with thick shakudo fukurin(rim cover). Era: Edo period. Elegantly engraved with a design of aoi(mallow) leaves inlaid in gold, silver and copper in a beautiful takabori technique. Veins and stems designs are finely carved. From its style, this tsuba might have been influenced by Nara school. In addition, as an aoi plant represents Tokugawa family, and this plate is of excellent workmanship, it might have been made by being ordered by a high-class samurai. An as high as 3.5mm Takabori zogan gives a splendid impact indeed! Size of the tsuba is as big as 77.3 x 73.3mm, and at most 13mm thickness! Weight is 190g. It is for Katana sword, not for Wakizashi. There're some marks of having being mounted on a katana. The katana must have been of such a high quality. This is surely an excellent quality tsuba you can hardly find! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
