| A fine old Japanese ‘Kaishi ire’ (a tissue holder for tea ceremony) in the style of wallet; the exterior is embroidered with roundels of bamboo with plum on the front. There is a Minogame long haired turtle, and cranes with pine branches for feathers on the other side. ‘Sho-chiku-bai’ is the combination of pine, bamboo and plum as the symbolic trio for happy occasions in Japan. Turtles and cranes symbolize longevity and good fortune especially when paired together. All auspicious motives are finely embroidered on a knotted background; the inside with divisions in a shaded blue woven silk with gold leaf (kinran) interiors.
