| Beautiful Japanese cloisonne vase with chrysanthemums. The background is known as ginbari (silver foil); thin silver foils impressed with the relief designs were applied to a copper base. The brass rims on this vase were finished with the old technique; a sheet was sodered and hand applied with another piece (see photo #4). Excellent condition. The line that appears as a crack is in the foil (folding line?) but did not affect the surface enamel. At 9 1/2", this is a larger example among the same group. Meiji period (1868-1912). | |||||||||||||||
