Huge circa 1930s Zecchin Martinuzzi Ruby Red Velato Vase. Of baluster form, in opaque red glass with translucent red handles, rim, and foot. Asian motifs are currently all the rage in decorating, as it was when this piece was created, making it just as chic and desirable today as it was in the 1920s or '30s. A very large 13.25" tall. The base has been drilled with a hole, measuring just under 1", as the piece was formerly used as a lampbase.
Photos 9 and 10 are from the Christie's 1995 catalogue "Venetian Glass: An Important Private Collection" showing the exact same vase (even the same size) with an auction estimate of $2,000 - $3,000. Their example was signed. As this one was factory drilled to be a lampbase, no signature was put on the base. It was purchased with two signed Martinuzzi vases (which will be added to the site shortly) in the exact same color. Therefore, I feel confident guaranteeing this piece to be first or second quarter of the 20th Century Murano glass by Martinuzzi. The vase is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. There is some smelter or paint remaining on the base from it's life as a lamp, which I have not attempted to remove (can be seen in the 8th photo), and many fine scratches to the underside of the rim of the base.
