A monumental Cenedese woven glass basket designed by Napoleone Martinuzzi in 1957. This large oval shaped vessel, in pale olive green glass, has an outer surface applied with thick coils of hot woven glass. The surface has a heavy iridescent texture which reflects strong shades of purples, golds and greens.
This enormous showpiece measures roughly 15" in diameter and 6" tall. It is extremely heavy and substantial. This basket was offered in the 1998 Sotheby's catalogue "Important 20th Century Glass: The Hal Meltzer Collection" with an auction estimate of $9,000 - $12,000 (see last photo). The bowl is unsigned, but was featured on the cover of a Cenedese catalogue from that period. In excellent condition. Domestic US shipping, handling, and insurance for this item will be $75.
