An unusually dramatic and large example of one of Dino Martens' signature designs: black/white half filigree called 'Bianca Nera,' which was developed in 1954 for Aureliano Toso. This balloon shaped vase is made of white and black half-filigree, both colours separated by a single line of sparkling gold aventurine (gold dust).
The large girth of this example really increases the impact of the design. Martens, who designed for Aureliano Toso, is considered one of the most important figures in 20th Century Italian glass. This wonderful example stands approximately 9.5" tall and approximately 24.5" in diameter. It is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. No label remaining, but very well documented.
