I am proud to offer this extremely rare vase by noted designer Anzolo Fuga for AVEM, circa late 1950s. This oversized avant-garde modernist vase is identical in every way (except color) to the one shown on p. 84 of the book "Anzolo Fuga: Murano Glass Artist" by Rosa Barovier Mentasti and Evan Lobel (see last photo for a plate from the book.)
The book reads: "The vases of the series conventionally known as "the bands" were made in many variations. Stripes were applied horizontally or vertically on the vases, and in spirals on the plates, by pouring large ribbons or threads of glass from an iron pipe onto the wall of the blown-glass pieces. Pieces from the Bands series all feature softly irregular forms and, at times, unusually decorative details, such as segments inside the vase in the shape of an hourglass." This elegantly shaped vase is executed in clear glass infused with internal white flecks. It has translucent green bands around the top and bottom portions. In a technical tour-de-force, thin filaments of glass are pulled through the center of the vase in two places. It almost appears as though the vase were melting. See my close-up photographs of this unusual detail. The vase measures an impressive 16" tall. It is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. This vase is guaranteed to be authentic and of the period. Domestic US shipping, handling, and insurance for this item will be $35.
