Monumental post-modern sculptural bowl by Mario Bellini for Venini called Sogni Infranti, designed and produced in 1992. Very few examples of this complex design were ever produced. The piece consists of a heavy, clear iridized bowl holding snippets of Venini's famous techniques and designs such as a bit of a patchwork vase. The bowl is signed on the base: "Venini Mario Bellini 1992 / 35." It also bears its original Venini label. The vase measures approximately 13" tall and 15" in diameter. It is extremely large and substantial, and appears to be in excellent condition. For more photos of this vase, please see our website planetglass.net. About this design, Bellini wrote: "The shattered dream of predetermined agreements. Dissonant harmonies of the present. Chaotic fragments of workmanship invade with colours the transparent order of traditions." Born in Milan in 1935, Mario Bellini's activities have ranged from architecture and urban design to furniture and industrial design. An acclaimed designer as of 1963, many of his creations are today part of the Permanent Collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Since the 80s he has dedicated himself primarily to architectural projects worldwide, from Europe to USA, the United Arab Emirates, Japan and Australia. Himself an avid art lover and collector, he is also well known as an art exhibition designer. Bellini's first professional experience was in the period from 1987 to 1996, c/o Mario Bellini Associates, where he worked with his father on a number of important projects: the halls for Milan Exhibition Centre, Tokyo Design Centre, the Villa Erba Congress Centre in Cernobbio, the Extra Dry office furniture for Marcatrč, the Eclipse spot lights for Erco Leuchten GmbH, a collection of vases for Venini, the leather chairs for Casina. During the same period, he personally took part in numerous national and international architecture and design competitions. Since 1997, with the foundation of the Bellini Studio, he has been totally involved in industrial design, with his own original method for studying the relationship between new technology and design. Among his most important work, we should remember. The Zanzibar spotlight system and the Iti suspended lights for Artemide, the Bella suspended lights for Castaldi, the ABC office furniture systems for Forza Forniture and Team Work for Frezza, a series of padded furniture and leather chairs for De Sede and, working together with Mario Bellini, the Bellini Chair and Arcobellini Chairs for Heller, the research into a new living car space for FIAT and the new Y office chairs for Vitra. He is currently working with: Fritz Hansen, Artemide, De Sede, Driade, Industrie Natuzzi, Turnstone, iGuzzini, Ycami, Walter Knoll, Lamy. Awards he has received: - "Goed Industrieel Ontwerp 1996", Stichting Goed Industrieel Ontwerp, Amsterdam - "Good Design 1998", The Chicago Athenaeum (Bellini Chair) - "Bronze IDEA" 1999 Industrial Design Award (Bellini Chair) - "Lights of the Future 2000", ISaloni (Bella lights) - "Design Plus - Light+Building Award", 2000 (Bella Lights) - "Innovations Preis", Architektur und Office 2000 (office chairs for KI/Your Space) - "Innovations Preis", Architektur und Office 2000 (XS office chairs for Rovo Chair International) - "Good Design 2000", The Chicago Athenaeum (office system Team Work Collection).
