Large leaded crystal, hand carved vaseline glass vase. Amber tinted vaseline glass is obtained by increasing the amount of uranium salts in the glass batch. Maker unknown, but according to one of the world's foremost experts in vaseline glass, this piece was made in England or somewhere in northern United Kingdom circa 1860-1880, and done in the 'Regency' cut, an older cut from england. The glass has been leaded, and it rings like a bell when struck with your fingernail.
The vase measures 6.25" tall, 8" wide, and measures 25" in circumference. It is extremely thick walled, heavy and large. It is a very deep golden yellow color, with shades of amber. In the sunlight, it is a very strong lime green color at the tips. It appears to change color in different lighting conditions, and the thickness of the glass and deep carvings create incredible optic effects. This vase really sparkles like a gemstone. There are no cracks, but there are a few "pinprick" type chips off the edges of the facets, and a few larger, shallow chips. I have tried to show the largest of these in my close-up photograph. One would have to be examining the piece closely to see them. For more photos of this piece, please see my website PlanetGlass.net. Domestic US shipping and professional packing will be $40. |
