Oil on canvas, J.J.Veeger, Dutch, view of Appingedam
$1800.00 plus shipping

This is a rare view of the Fivel River/canal in Appingedam, The Netherlands, painted by Dutch artist, J.J. Veeger. It shows two boats on the river, with a village and smoke stack in the right background, cows grazing in the field on the left and an old, ca. 1550, chalk burner on the left side of the painting. On the back of the canvas is written: "Fivel" , "3b", and "Appingedam". Appingedam is a city in NE Netherlands, in the province of Groningen. The Fivel River is a historical river in Groningen province which ran through Appingedam but the stream bed is hardly visible in current time.
