A fine miniature portrait painting on ivory, done by Mrs. Moses B. Russell. Although unsigned, the background coloration, the brush technique, and the overall "feel" of the work lead to a certainty that this work was done by her, and is guaranteed as such. The sitter is a handsome bearded young man, wearing a black bowtie and jacket, The background features a striking green and black combination. The miniature is housed in its period locket. Condition is excellent, with no chips, cracks, bowing, or restoration. The rear aperture of the locket is no longer glazed, nor is the hair present, a very common situation. The sight size of the painting is 2 11/16" by 2 1/8", and the framed size is 2 7/8" by 2 3/8". |
