This extremely rare and very early Derby enameled wine taster is of circular shape with gadrooned sides, and has a pierced scroll handle in puce with the exterior handle ends with applied leaves in green. The exterior has puce foliate sprays, and the interior has a circular central panel edged with black and red lines containing an insect.

While the form itself is uncommon, they are usually done in blue and white, and polychrome examples are of the "utmost rarity." It is for this reason that we have departed from our rather strict guideline of only offering items in excellent condition. This example does have a hairline and chips to the edge of the leaves. The only example we have been able to find of this form, also with a hairline, was sold 8 years ago at Bonham's, for approximately $3,000. The taster is 2 1/4" in diameter, and 1" in height.

This is an absolute must for any serious collector of early porcelain.
