A very nicely painted American miniature portrait. The sitter is a young man who, unfortunately, has a crossed eye. It is not common to find miniatures with sitters who have a very visible physical flaw. The artist presented this painting without apology or attempts at artifice, simply showing the man dressed in a black coat and tie, against an attractive bluish-gray background.
The condition of the painting is very good, with no chips, cracks, bowing, or restoration. There are some water stains along portions of the edge. The gilt metal case is nicely done, with a fully covered glass back. The case measures 2 5/16" by 1 15/16", and the mini measures 2 3/16" by 1 13/16".
