A wonderful example of a figurine made by the Samuel Alcock factory (1822 - 1859) in the 1835 time period. The piece is of a recumbent saluki on a yellow mounded base, the sides enriched with a gilded band. Vary few examples of salukis are known, and are often of a sitting saluki, not a recumbent one. As is generally the case, the base does have an impressed number, in this instance "115". The overall condition is excellent, with no chips, cracks, enamel loss, or restoration. The gilding does have skips or some wear at the high points of the sides of the scroll base. There is a firing separation, occurring during manufacture, at the top of the head, as shown in the 5th picture. The figurine is 3 5/8" in length, 1 3/4" wide, and 2 1/8" tall. A great and uncommon piece to add to your collection of animals or porcelain, made by a company well known for its animal figures. |
