A beautiful Derby porcelain porter mug, probably painted by Daniel Lucas. The scene depicted shows two figures in the foreground, one of the famous aqueducts in the midground, and a castle and mountains in the background, all of which amidst fulsome foliage and trees. Elaborate and rich gilding surrounds the cartouche and continues on the reverse of the mug and on the handle.

The bottom of the mug says "In Italy", and has the painted red crown, D ,and swords The gilder's mark of "32" is at the edge of the foot rim. This is a huge example, with the height and diameter being 5 inches. Condition is superb, with no chips, cracks, paint loss, or restoration. The gilding is bright and virtually 100% intact.

Note: It is thought that the porter mug form was developed in order to give the finer artists a large palette to display their talents.
