A striking and extremely rare hooked rug featuring a peacock displaying its beautiful plumage. This is a very graphically strong depiction, striking in its design.
One of the factors that contributes greatly to the rarity is the use of silver metallic threads circling the "eyes" of the peacock's feathers. The color range in the rug is beautiful, with no jarring clashes. All dyes are natural, with no use of artificial coloring.
The condition is excellent, with virtually no worn spots, tears, or snags. The interesting thing is that it appears that when the edges were bound, the binding was applied to the wrong side. This is evidenced by the relative lack of the metallic threads on the "front" side (which should have been the reverse), and the clarity of several of the design aspects, such as the edge squares and the striping in the decorative ground area. It would truly enhance this superb example if the binding were removed and placed on the other side, a task which is not that difficult to do for anyone experienced in sewing or rug restoration. Size is 34 1/2" by 27 1/2".
