Guest Book

A charming autograph book which belonged to Sally Graham of Philadelphia, aged 12, providing wonderful insights to the thoughts and feelings of teenagers of that era. Practically every page is filled with poems or well-wishes from Sally's classmates.

There are 51 handwritten pages with sentiments such as the one below, some quite amusing. In addition, there are 2 pages with full-blown calligraphic drawings, one signed and dated. Each easily deserves to be framed.

The book measures 7 1/4" by 4 1/4" and is in excellent condition, with no torn or missing pages. It is unusual to find an album of this type that is so filled and in such good condition, even without considering the calligraphy.

"We may write our name in albums
We may trace them on the sand
We may chisel them in marble
With a firm and skillful hand
But the pages soon are sullied
Soon each name will fade away
Every monument will crumble
Like all earthly hope decay.
But my friend here is an album
Full of leaves of snowy white
Where no name is ever tarnished
But forever pure and bright."
