An elegant and beautiful Derby porcelain figure of "Flora," from the "Antique Seasons" set. Flora (or Spring)stands on a tall plinth, is wearing a diadem of flowers, has gathered her robe in her left hand, and is offering a wreath with her right. The Antique Seasons set was made in 1771, and each has the model number "5" incised in the base. It is described in Peter Bradshaw's book "Derby Porcelain Figures 1750-1848" as being exceedingly rare. This figure is 9" tall, and is in fantastic condition, (especially considering its delicacy and age, and the beatings most figures have taken) with a slight stub to one toe being the only damage. Ex Antique Porcelain Company (London), a major and highly respected antiques purveyor, no longer in business. |
