Japanese Keyaki wood Tansu, two(2) section Tansu, early part of Meiji Period, 1867-1912, with brass Turtle and Iron Eagle on black iron oval shape back plate and heavy black iron handles, 46" high, 48" wide, 17 1/2" deep. Lower piece has two(2) drawers, two(2) small drawers inside the highly decorated with black iron small blind door next to bottom drawer, and top piece with two(2) long graduated size drawers. The Keyaki wood grains are very decorative, the secondary wood is black lacquered Cedar wood. All the lock plates are decorated with raised removable Brass Turtles and Iron Eagles within brass frame. Brass Turtle will move up and down to hide the key holes and change his positions. The condition is good, shows some wears on wood, and little bits of brass beaks of Eagles are broken off.
