The painting of this *PAIR* is inscribed on the reverse "ON THE DELAWARE RUGGLES" (see images of back and signature) by the decorated and documented Artist/Physician Dr. Edward Ruggles (1817-1867) . The image shows what we believe is the Delaware River/Water Gap on the East Coast of the U.S. somewhere between New Jersey and Delaware/Pennsylvania The painting itself is an Oil on Paper/Board & measures 7 1/8" X 5 1/8" while the frame measures 10 7/8" X 8 7/8". The original Gold painted sand finished frame is line with a worn Brown velvet and Gold finished liner (worn a bit).
The second painting of this *PAIR* is an absolutely beautiful and crisply painted Oil on Paper/Board and is unsigned and attributed to "Dr. Edward Ruggles." This wonderful Sea scape painting is in a matching frame and from the same estate as the signed and titled Oil on Paper/Board which is being offered as the mate to this painting. This stunning and crisp Oil Painting on Paper/Board displays 2 Fisherman upon a small boat on stormy seas. Several sailing ships are visible in the distance. This item is in its original frame (which also matches the frame on the Signed and Titled Ruggles O/B mate painting). This painting measures 7 1/8" X 5 1/8" while the frame measures 10 7/8" X 8 7/8". The original Gold painted sand finished frame is lined with a somewhat worn Brown Velvet and Gold finished liner. The upper left corner of this painting has a small area with a pressure fracture to the surface of the paint which does not appear to go through to the back of the board as seen in our close up image which is highly magnified. This painting is in original wonderful condition and does appear to be in very good overall condition.
We have not removed the paintings from their frames to inspect and search for additional possible signatures, dates etc. We will leave this to the discretion of the new owner of this fantastic *PAIR* of RUGGLES GEMS!
These painting appear to us to be in untouched wonderful condition and does to be in very good overall condition.
There is very strong and fully documented relations between WALT WHITMAN and DR. EDWARD RUGGLES and his paintings and the following was taken from the internet as just one such documented correspondence;
Ruggles, Edward Dr. (1817-1867)
Physician, Artist.
Dr. Edward Ruggles was a friend of the Whitman family who was an "eccentric physician and painter in Brooklyn" (G. W. Allen 323). Ruggles earned his medical degree at Bowdoin College sometime around 1840. At some point, he gave up his medical career and devoted himself to painting. His "cabinet pictures" were known as "Ruggle Gems" and they "were greatly in demand at the time of his death, though apparently other artists were contemptuous of them. Many thought him eccentric, and apparently some found him unpleasant: ’For the shams and phariseeisms of life he had no sympathy and not much charity; and he did not hesitate to say what he thought for fear of consequences. To say things which run counter to common prejudices is not to court popularity; and it may be that Dr. Ruggles sometimes gained disfavor by such a course without securing any compensating advantage’" (G. W. Allen 323-24). Gay Allen suggests that "[h]e sounds very much in some ways like Walt Whitman himself" (380).
A. L. Rawson describes Ruggles as a friend of Ada Clare, which does not place him at Pfaff’s proper, but does suggest that he spent time at Clare’s 42nd Street home where many Bohemians were known to gather.
Also from the internet;
Dr. Edward Ruggles (? - c. 1866)
Ruggles, a physician, was active during the period 1848 to 1865. He was an "amateur" painter, since he was made an honorary member of the National Academy of Design from 1851 to 1860. He was elected to the Century Association in 1848 (and apparently resigned in 1851).
He exhibited at the National Academy and the American Art Union from 1851 to 1860. Prang lithographic firm of Boston published nine of his New Hampshire views, titled RUGGLES' GEMS.
One of the chromolithographs was titled Mount Washington (see Ruggles' Gems, page 153). Another painting titled White Mountains was sold at a Leonard Auction in 1863.

Stunning Vase signed "GENUINE CAMARK" in Gold within the shape of the State of Arkansas on the base. This item has a textured finish very similar to that of the J.B. Owens Pottery Company Opalesce Line. The Textured surface is BLACK though. The Iridescent King of Prussia Daffodil is in Brick Red on Gold with some shiny Black. The decorated surface appears to have been applied and fired on the White Clay Body BEFORE the Black layer was applied and fired on. The interior of the vase has a Glossy very Dark Brown/Black Glaze and can also be seen on the very underside of the vase as well where the Company Mark is located. This vase is very similar to Wellers Lasa and Lamar lines as well but somewhat different as well. The vase stands 8" tall and measures 5 1/2" across at the widest point.

This is a Magnificent Circa 1893-95 L.C. Tiffany Studios *CORONA* Original Vase. This vase measures 9" across the base at the widest point and stands 6 1/4" tall. First let me say that the Blue that appears in the images actually shows as a GOLD Phantom Luster on the item. For some reason it always photographs Blue. This item has Large Green Iridescent Pulled Feathers up the Body to the Neck of the vase and is surrounded by Gold Iridescent Phantom Luster Finish. I honestly believe this item to be from the first year or two of Art Glass production by Louis Comfort Tiffany while at the Corona location. This vase is of relatively thick Paperweight glass and has a very odd Film to the interior that seems to have pealed away or not adhered in some areas. I am not sure if this was done at the time of production or afterward. The exterior has stunning iridescence which is unlike any later Tiffany examples that I have carried or seen (and that is a fairly good amount). The vase absolutely looks like the Decayed and Decomposing Egyptian and Syrian Glass that Louis Comfort Tiffany was trying to replicate. The Wonderful Organic shape is clearly one of his earliest designs. without restrictions or strict structure this item fills a large space. The base has an unfinished and un-ground pontil which is common for Tiffany's earliest work. One can view very similar items in the Metropolitan Museum of Arts American Wing Collection. The vase exhibits some small pimples, bubbles as well as one open bubble we have included a close up of. This is how this item was created and we make mention for accuracy sake alone as this item is extremely Rare and Beautiful in its own right. The vase is Unsigned and we do Guarantee that this item is as we have represented. It has been in our personal collection for decades. Should one wish to remove the interior film, we are very much aware that this can be done and no one would know that it existed, but, this is how we received this item and we will pass it on in the exact same condition just in case it was originally meant to be this way. Please view the images and remember that it is much more Phantom Luster Gold and Green and very little blue actually exists in the finish. This item has No chips, cracks or repairs but does have some in the making anomalies. Please Inquire regarding Price and Shipping fees via Ground Insured UPS Shipping.

Exceedingly RARE and a ONE OF A KIND! This Stunning Very EARLY Louis Comfort Tiffany Paperweight Vase is of his Earliest Corona Glass Period circa 1894. This item is of very Thick Phantom Iridescent Amber Glass with thick abstract sections of Blood Red Glass which appears to be Dark Green when not viewed in strong light. There are 2 Silver objects also in the glass design. The entire surface has a fine oily iridescent finish and a thick tooled glass rim. The base of the vase has a Ground and Polished Pontil and the #s 5536 incised. Though this item is not incised Tiffany as Many to Most of the Earliest items by Tiffany were not (see Metropolitan Museum of Art collection for similar unsigned items), we absolutely Fully Guarantee this item to ORIGINAL AND CORRECT. We have owned this item for many years in our private collection. The vase measures 7 1/4" X 7 1/2". This is a very substantial and MAJOR piece of Tiffany Studios glass.. This item had been used and loved and does have interior lime deposits and hard water etching to the interior glass. We are sure this can be professionally removed, but we chose to leave this for the new owner of this item. Any and all lines you see in our images are natural characteristics of the Finish to this item as it has ABSOLUTELY No chips, cracks or repairs.
