We offer for purchase this circa 1880's British Military CARTE DE VISITE by J. Blakeborough. This item also has its original thick beveled glass, wood and metal frame. The front of the CDV is marked j Blakeborough Pontefract. The image shows a young soldier with sword in a studio pose. The reverse of the CDV is inscribed; "J.B. Artist & Photographer. J. Blakeborough Ropergate End Pontefract "This or any other portrait enlarged up to life size and painted in oil or watercolor to order" Extra copies can be had at a reduced price" The CDV itself has some wear to the lower edge which is due to the paint from the original glass front to the frame that slips into the wooden easel style backing frame with its original 3 metal clips and springs that hold the entire group together. The CDV measures 4" X 2 7/8" while the beveled glass and wood frame backing measure 4 1/8" X 2 1/2". The Hand Painted beveled glass frame front has some chips but these frames are very rarely found to begin with in any condition and this CDV and Frame are in overall Fair++ to Very Good overall condition.
