An extremely rare blue and white figure head dated to Yuan dynasty.
This exquisite face contains a few interesting details. It has chin strap with large beads on both sides, unfortunately the hat has now gone. The eyes and lips are both non glazed. ( a technique rather unique to Yuan porcelain) It's left sideburns has some soil incursion on the iron spot resulted from ink piling. A small area on top ( probably rim of the hat) was covered with brown slip. This figure head was covered overall with a glossy crackle greenish white glaze and is in excellent condition with no restoration.
Please refer to the last image, the similar characteristic of a Khan or King portrait published by Palace Museum, Beijing.
Another similar Yuan B/W figure head has also been found at The New York Metropolitan Museum.
