This is a lovely vintage Mexican silver folkloric necklace. The chain is a paperclip style and is closed with a simple hook. The flowers are open back repousse with gemstone beads of turquoise, coral and amethyst wired and tied off in the back. The birds are solid silver with the drop being 2.25in. across and 3 in. tall. The silver is then further adorned by hand carving for depth and more dimension. Finally there are 3 dangles from the drop each with a river pearl. The weight is approximately 40 grams and the wearable length is 19in. but you can hook it into any of the links to adjust where you would like it to lay. Mary L. Davis and Greta Pack's book MEXICAN JEWELRY illustrates and discusses this style of Mexican jewelry as well as jewels from the many regions of Mexico. No damage or flaws. There are marks that are extremely worn on the back of the birds but it is not believed to be hallmarks. Most work of this type was not hallmarked. It tested solid sterling or better.
