Rafael Melendez worked for Spratling when he first opened his taller de las Delicias. Melendez left to open his own Taller in 1939. This is one of his earliest marks that was done in 980 silver. Some of the Silver repousse links have Matl like glyphs. The silver sets up the onyx stones in the cross giving it great depth and dimension. Having a large presence the necklace is 20.75 in. with the extension and 15in. without it. The length of the extension is dramatic while showing off the other link elements. The weight is 97 grams heavy. The workmanship is off the charts and it has no damage with all original parts to the necklace showing. A very rare design, just LOOK AT THAT NECKLACE!
