Large Dutch Silver Repousse Matchbox Holder H/M 1927

This is a large Dutch Silver (833) table matchbox holder, made by Th & P. Moerkerk, & fully hallmarked for Amsterdam 1927.

The front of the holder has been beautifully embossed with Rembrandt's 1642 masterpiece 'The Night Watch' (which hangs in the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam).

The detail in the embossed scene is superb.

The holder is fully hallmarked with :

the Lion Passant with the arabic numeral '2' underneath (for 833 Dutch Silver)

Minerva Head (the 'A' on Minerva's helmet for the Amsterdam assay office)

Date letter 'R' (for 1927)

Makers mark ('M+C' for Th & P.Moerkerk (Fa. Moerkerk & Co) who worked from 1923 untill 1928 in Haarlem).

As is the norm with Dutch Silver of this period, each individual mark is placed on a different part of the piece.

This is a large holder (for 'pantry' or 'Kitchen' matchboxes), & measures approx 11cm x 7cm x 3.5cm.

The holder weighs approx 104.4 g or 3.68 oz.

Condition is excellent (Minerva Head mark slightly rubbed) - Please see photo's.
