This is an Edwardian period match safe or vesta, dating to around 1910. The holder is constructed of metal with a covering of green, patterned Moroccan leather, with the word 'LIGHT' embossed in gold, on the top of the lid. The holder is opened via a concealed push button on the front, & opens to reveal a green enamelled interior, with a hinged leaf/striking plate. This type of vesta would have originally been part of an Edwardian Gentleman's cased travelling set, & would have been accompanied, along with other 'necessary' items,by a matching inkwell. This vesta is in near MINT condition, there is some extremely light rubbing to one side. The vesta has never been used. The leather covering the 'push button' & hinge is in original condition and intact (these are the weak points on this type of case & are usually worn / torn), & the interior is perfect. The case measures approx 4.5cm x 4cm x 2cm.
