This is a George V Sterling Silver Toasting Fork, by the silversmiths John Batt & Co, and fully hallmarked for Sheffield 1912. The repousse handle is a variation of the Kings pattern, with the terminal having a flowing shell or wave like motif, from which, a thread at either side follows the line of the handle, ending in an upright acanthus leaf. The bolster is circular with a gadrooned edge. The handle is fully hallmarked (hallmarks very rubbed) with the makers mark 'JB' (for John Batt & Co, entered in 1900 & worked until 1918), the crown (Sheffield), the lion passant (925 sterling), & the date letter 'u' (for 1912 - 13). The date letter & lion passant are repeated on the other side of the handle. The shaft and the 3 tines are unmarked, & are most probably of a bright steel. Condition is good for it's 96 years, there are a few tiny & shallow bruises to the handle (very difficult to see), the tips of the repousse acanthus motifs are holed, & the hallmarks are rubbed - please see magnified photographs. The fork is approx 18 cm, or just over 7" in length, & 1.5" (3.7 cm) across the end of the tines.
