Edwardian Silver Pocket Watch: Swiss & German Hallmarks

This is a solid .800 Silver cased Pocket Watch, fully hallmarked with both Swiss & German hallmarks by S.F.C (Schild, Frere & Co ?), and probably dating to around the early 1900's. The watch is in working order.

CRYSTAL : The bevel hinges forward & holds an early celluloid ? crystal. This has the normal age related surface scratching & has yellowed with age.

DIAL : The face is in white porcelain & has a subsidiary, 60 second dial. The face has Arabic numerals & Gilt 'louis' style main hands, whilst the sweep hand is plain.

CASE : The rear of the case has an engine turned pattern with a central vacant cartouche surrounded by a floral / foliate design. The rear hinges open to reveal a plain Silver cuvette, which hinges open to reveal the movement. The rear, cuvette, case, & stem are all hallmarked.

MOVEMENT : The watch has a keyless wind and pin set movement, signed 'S.F.C' in a 'Swiss' cross, & the No. 1581204

HALLMARKS : The rear cover & the cuvette both carry the same hallmarks of a large and a small Grouse & .800 (the Swiss Silver marks used from 1882 until 1934), the German Silver reichsmark (the halbmond und krone), the makers mark 'S.F.C' in a shield (Schild, Frere & Co ?), and the No. 1638748 over 9. The case & the stem also carry the Swiss Grouse mark.

OTHER : The watch has a rose & yellow gold coloured crown, & a gold coloured bow.

DIMENSIONS : The watch is just over 5 cm in diameter, & just over 6 cm to the top of the crown.

CONDITION : Condition is good for age, the watch winds & runs (although we cannot guarantee accuracy), the face has a very small & slight hairline at 10 o'clock & a tiny chip on the extreme edge at 1 o'clock (only seen under magnification when the bevel is open), & the front of the bevel seems to have been gold plated at some point, but this is mostly faded.

Overall, a nice continental Silver pocket or fob watch, in good condition for age (although with all antique watches, we would recommend a service).
