This is a Victorian glass pharmacy / apothecary powder bottle or jar, with a hand blown removable stopper & a recessed 'phototype patent' glass label, and fully marked to the base with the York Glass Co device. The bottle is cylindrical in form, with a wide frosted neck, & has the moulded 'York Glass Co' chamfered edge triangle mark to the base (Y G over Co). The recessed label under glass has 'PULV : GUAIAC :' in black text on a white background, with a Red, Black, & Gilt border. The hand blown hollow stopper is ball shaped, with a flat top & a frosted neck. There is a rough ground pontil mark to the bottom of the stopper. The stopper is original to the bottle & is an excellent, snug fit. Condition of the bottle & stopper is excellent, with absolutely no chips, cracks, or restoration. Condition of the label is Fine, there is very light dulling to the white background (although it is still nice & bright) & a little light crinkling to the R/H gilt border. The recess would benefit from a clean. The bottle is approx 7 1/4" high (to the top of the stopper), & approx 2 3/8" diameter at the base (approx 19 cm & 6 cm). Overall, a scarce Victorian label under glass powder bottle from the York Glass Co. |
