This is a decorative porcelain bowl, made by Paragon China to commemorate the opening of the Scottish Empire Exhibition in May 1938 by King George VI & Queen Elizabeth. The bowl has a pedestal base, & is decorated with a gilt band to the exterior & a gilded rim. The interior has a banner around the rim with 'EMPIRE EXHIBITION SCOTLAND', & the centre of the bowl is decorated with an enamelled Lion Rampant surrounded by the flags of the empire to the top, & a floral flourish below, with the wording 'OPENED BY THEIR MAJESTIES KING GEORGE VI & QUEEN ELIZABETH - MAY 1938' underneath. The base of the foot has the Paragon backstamp with 'BY APPOINTMENT', & reads 'A perpetual souvenir in Paragon China to commemorate the EMPIRE EXHIBITION SCOTLAND held at Bellahouston Park, Glasgow - opened by their Majesties King George VI & Queen Elizabeth'. Condition is Excellent for it's 71 years, with no chips, cracks, crazing, or wear to the gilding. The only things to note is that one end of the interior banner has a little rubbing (extremely minor) & the 'G' in 'KING' is a little rubbed. There is also a tiny spot on the exterior rim where the gilding has been over applied - Please see magnified photos. The bowl measures approx 3 5/8" in diameter, & stands 1 3/4" high (approx 9.2cm x 4.4cm).
