This is an Early Nottingham style wood & brass strapback centrepin fishing reel, probably used for trout or coarse fishing, & dating to the early part of the 20th Century. The reel is made of wood, with a brass strapback / foot & is free spinning, with no ratchet ever having been fitted. The drum is wooden with two handles & a brass thumbscrew fixing, & both the front & back of the reel have a turned, concentric circle decoration. The reel is in original, unrestored condition, but is overall extremely good, with a free spinning drum & no splits / cracks to the wood. One thing to note is that the strapback / foot is of a thinner gauge of brass than is normally found on this type of reel. The reel measures approx 3 7/8" in diameter, 1 7/8" in width, with an internal width approx 1" (approx 9.9cm, 4.9cm, & 2.5cm).
