This is an Art Deco period jug or pitcher by Arthur Wood, fully back stamped, & dating to around 1934 - 45. The jug has a concave body, an unusual scalloped top, & an angular handle. The jug is decorated with a band of ribbing to the bottom, two larger bands above, & a raised, stylised 'leaf' design to either side; all finished in a beige / biscuit coloured glaze, with darker highlights. The base has the printed Arthur Wood mark which was used from c. 1934 - 1945, & the words 'MADE IN ENGLAND - HARFORD' impressed around the base circumference. Although this is a jug or pitcher, it would serve equally well as a vase. Condition is Fine, with no chips, cracks, or hairlines. There is extremely fine crazing to the finish (only visible under a loupe), and a little 'silver' mark to the top of one of the stylised leafs (extremely difficult to see, looks like pencil but doesn't erase - please see 1st photo). As expected, there is very light wear to the unglazed base rim. The jug stands approx 7 3/4" high (at the highest point of the lip), or approx 19.7 cm.
