Large Hand Chased Silver Expanding Bangle: Chester 1937

This is an early George VI period, hand chased Silver expanding bangle, made by the Birmingham silversmiths Joseph Smith & Sons, & fully hallmarked for Chester 1937.

The bangle, which is approx 5/8" wide, has been hand chased with a bright cut floral / foliate design with wriggle work borders.

The bangle is fully hallmarked with the makers mark 'JS' (Joseph Smith & Sons), the lion passant (925 Sterling), the wheatsheafs (Chester), & the date letter, a gothic 'm' (1937 - 38).

The weight is 20.7 g or 0.73 oz.

Condition is Fine for it's 72 years. The bangle, as is usual with expanding bracelets, is very slightly out of true (ie not a perfect circle), but there is no damage or repairs.

The bangle measures approx 5/8" wide (1.6cm), and has a circumference of approx 7 3/4" or 19.1cm (in normal position) and approx 9" or 22.8cm (fully expanded).

Overall, a lovely adults vintage Silver bangle, from a now closed (1962) Assay Office.
