This is a pair of totally original English Georgian candlesticks, made of brass with push up ejection mechanisms (working), & dating to around 1800 - 30. The sticks are baluster in form and are typical of early 19th Century design, with oversize bases, balusters, & sockets, giving them a rather 'plump' appearance. The sticks have stepped, circular 'spun' bases (finished on a lathe to clean off the metal) and unusual, large sockets which have a small 'lip' around their circumference. The push up mechanisms are all original, in full working order, & are very unusual, in that the buttons (in the base) are stamped with the number '7' and the brass top of the push ups have been decorated with a simple, engraved line border, with the pointed top of the rod sitting in the centre. Condition is original & unrestored (with the exception of a light polish), but overall are Very Good for their 200+ years. The sticks lean slightly, the base edges have a few light knocks (out of true & one stick will rock slightly if pushed hard), one of the socket 'lips' has a very small knock, & there are small areas of tarnish - absolutely nothing that couldn't be easily rectified, although they are charming as they are and, of course, usable.. The sticks measure approx 10 1/4" tall, with a base diameter of approx 5" (approx 26.2cm & 12.7cm). The sticks are heavy at over 1.5Kg unpacked, so collection is welcome (Edinburgh / W Lothian area - delivery can also be arranged within this area).
