Large Antique Silver Salt & Liner: Levi & Salaman 1911

This is a large Silver open salt with it's original Blue glass liner, by the illustrious silversmiths Levi & Salaman, & fully hallmarked for Birmingham 1911.

The salt, which is very much in the Georgian style, is oval in form, with a scalloped rim & stands on four Ball & Claw feet.

The scalloped rim is gadrooned & the body has an engraved floral / foliate swag design, with a pierced work 'stylised urn?' roundel on the sides & rear, whilst the front has a vacant, circular cartouche. The top & bottom have a decorative, pierced work border.

The Blue glass liner is original to the salt, & is in good condition, with the exception of a small, surface chip to one side (this does not affect the structure in any way, & can only be seen when the liner is removed).

The base of the salt is fully hallmarked with the makers mark 'L & S' (Levi & Salaman), the anchor (Birmingham), the lion passant (925 Sterling), & the date letter 'm' (1911 - 12).

Overall condition is good with no dents or dings & no damage to the pierced work. The base rim, which is attached to the body, has started to come away at one end (above two of the feet), although this does not affect the structure in any way at all & could easily be re-soldered - please see magnified photos.

The salt measures approx 3 1/4" long, 2 3/8" wide, & 2 1/8" high (at highest point) or approx 8.3cm, 6cm, & 5.4cm.

The weight, excluding the liner, is 58.7 g, 2.07 oz, or 1.89 Troy.
