Victorian Aesthetic Period Lustre Ware Patch Box c1880

This is a small, 19th Century pill or patch box, made of porcelain in a pearl lustre glaze with metal mounts, and probably of European manufacture, around 1880 - 90.

The box is circular in form, vaguely 'bun' shaped, and has a hinged lid, with the hinge, mounts, & scroll clasp being made of metal (probably brass).

The sides of the box are finished in a pearl lustre glaze, with very faint traces of a gilt decoration.

The lid of the box has a gilt bordered central transfer of a pair of Japanese musicians in traditional dress.

The interior & the base of the box are plain, with the base unglazed & interior glazed.

Condition is Fine, there are no cracks, chips, or restoration & the hinge & clasp are fine. The gilding is partially rubbed around the edge of the transfer - please see magnified photo's.

The box measures approx 1 7/8" in diameter (at the base) & approx 1 1/4" high (4.8 cm x 3.1cm).
