Mauchline Ware Compass BEACHY HEAD LIGHTHOUSE c.1902

This is an early Edwardian, Scottish Mauchline Ware box & fitted compass in the Transfer Ware finish, featuring BEACHY HEAD LIGHTHOUSE, and dating to around 1902.

The two piece box is made from copal varnished sycamore & is circular in form, with an extended lip to the base and the lid rim

The top of the box lifts off to reveal the original fitted compass & unvarnished interior. The compass, which is of German manufacture, is double sided, with a compass on one side & a mirror on the other.

The top of the box is decorated with a transfer scene of Beachy Head Lighthouse, which was completed in 1902.

The base of the box has the original retailers sticker of '?OOKER - EASTBOURNE' (the nearest town to Beachy Head).

Condition is Immaculate, with no damage or wear to the transfer.

The diameter of the box is approx 2 3/8" (approx 6.2cm).
