Victorian Mauchline Sewing Egg SAN SEBASTION (Spain)

This is a Victorian, Scottish Mauchline Ware sewing 'egg' box in the Transfer Ware finish, & dating to around 1885.

The top of the egg lifts off, to reveal the unlined interior which would originally have had a small, wooden dowel, over which, a spool of thread would be placed (the dowel is a push fit & easily replaced).

The egg features a transfer print of 'SAN SEBASTION - PALACIO DE LA DIPUTACION'. The Palace (Delegation Palace) was completed in 1885 but suffered a fire soon after, resulting in most of the Palace having to be rebuilt.

Condition is Good. The transfer is fine & there is the expected, light general wear (due to the egg shape, these boxes tend to roll around, thus suffer more wear than other Mauchline pieces).

The egg ia approx 2 3/4" long (approx 9.5cm).
