Victorian Silver Pl Nautilus Shell Spoon Warmer c1880

This is a Victorian figural Silver Plate spoon warmer, by the Sheffield silversmiths, the Atkin Brothers, & dating to circa 1880.

The spoon warmer is in the form of a large Nautilus Shell sitting on the sea bed.

The opening for the spoons is at the top of the shell, & is partially covered by a hinged lid with a scalloped edge design.

The base is in the form of a rocky sea floor with shells & seaweed, & has a scallop shell at one end, for use as a handle.

The base is fully marked with the makers mark 'HA' 'EA' 'FA' (Harry, Edward, & Frank Atkin), 'EPNS', & '1137' (probably a pattern number).

Condition is fairly good, given it's 130 odd years. There is some plate loss (please see photos) & a few bruises, most noticeably to the rear, front, & L/H bottom of the front

The warmer measures approx 6" long, 3 1/2" wide, & 5 3/4" high (approx 15.2cm, 8.9cm, & 14.6cm).

Overall, a large, novelty Victorian spoon warmer, by a renowned firm of silversmiths.
