Mexican Ethnic Milagros NECKLACE ~ Amazing
This necklace is a very interesting piece. Found in the State of Guerrero by a picker of ethnographic and religious pieces. The necklace was made with trade beads. The beads of this necklace are rare. They are "white hearts" but the more common color for these beads is red. Orange "white hearts" are much more rare. The milagros on the necklace are all vintage. Mostly sterling but a few gold tone (not gold) are probably gilded. The necklace has two loops and could have been used as a wedding necklace. In traditional wedding ceremonies in Mexico, both groom and bride are "strung" together by a lasso. After the wedding the necklace belongs to the bride and she wears it for special occasions. This necklace may have come from the coat near Oaxaca. It does seem to be made with very old components but may have been restrung (maybe several times). These glass beads were traded by the European conquistadores. However it is very difficult to determine the age of these white hearts because they were made for centuries. Each loop measures approximately 32" in length. All necklace components show significant age and wear. This is an amazing find. Probably late 19 or early 20th C. COLLECTOR QUALITY
