Ceremonial Guatemalan Colonial Coins and Coral Necklace
Superb antique Ceremonial necklace dating probably to the 19th C. Contains multiple silver COB coins from the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries. Many of the coins have been modified into bird fetishes but the markings are still visible. The use of coins to make bird fetishes is common in very specific region of Oaxaca and in Guatemala. The necklace has multitude of other all silver charms and fetiches all with different symbolic representations. The necklace is 286 grams!!!! and measures 76 inches in length. Can be worn over three loops on an average person. Incredible antique coral, all coral no glass beads. This necklace is a treasure. Please abstain to inquire if you wish to buy it to break it apart.
