| Amazing Spanish colonial reliquary from the late 18th to early 19th Century. This unique found originated in the Philippines where this specific type of gold work was done. All hand-made piece of great ethnographic importance. The red threads are clear indicative of the Chinese influence in Philippine culture. Having red thread in a gold necklace was thought to protect the owner and bring more gold to the one wearing it. The contents of the reliquary were removed and only the glass remains, making this piece quite beautiful. The style of this jewelry is known as TAMBORIN. This style is characterized by the spiky beads and highly detailed small beads each made and detailed by hand. Each bead is therefore a unique piece in itself. These pieces are extremely hard to find. Measures 24 inches i total length and the reliquary/pendant is 1 1/4" long and 1 ' wide. Tested positive for gold MUSEUM QUALITY | |||||||||
